On this episode of #IoTExplained — we continue our discussion on how an IoT system/solution actually works and we skip the connectivity portion to talk about data processing “at the edge” of an IoT network.
In part one of How Does an IoT System Actually Work?, we explained that there are four major components that are involved in any given IoT solution. Those components are Sensors/Devices, Connectivity, Data Processing, and User Interface. The Internet of Things is made up of connected devices, i.e. anything that has the capacity to transfer data over a network. We covered connectivity in part one, discussing how data gets from the device to the cloud. In part two we introduce gateways, discussing data processing at the edge and communication between devices and the user interface without an external network.
